Have Your Vehicle's Windshield Repaired Or Replaced

You are driving cautiously down the freeway as you head to work when all of a sudden, a rather large rock hits your windshield, causing it to crack. Luckily, you are able to remain safe as you continue the drive and pull into the parking lot that is next to your place of employment. But, now what? Surely you don't want to risk driving home with an imperfect windshield. Follow the guidelines below to have the windshield repaired or replaced.

Contact Your Insurance Agency To Find Out If Coverage Is Available

The first thing that you should do is contact your insurance agency to find out if windshield repairs or replacements are covered with your policy. Many insurance agencies offer policies that include windshield services, which could save you a chunk of cash and won't result in your insurance rate going up.

If the company provides coverage, find out what you will need to do to file a claim. Your insurance agent may request that you provide your insurance information to a repair person or they may state that you will need to pay the cost for repairs before being reimbursed by the insurance agency at a later date.

Notify A Mobile Repair Company

Contact a mobile repair company to make an appointment to have a specialist come to your location to inspect, repair, or replace the windshield. If the damage to the glass is relatively small, epoxy may be used to fill the chipped glass. This procedure will strengthen the glass to its previous state. Although the imperfection will be somewhat visible, repaired windshields often last as long as new ones as long as excessive pressure isn't placed on the glass surface.

If the rock that hit your windshield resulted in a long crack across the center of the windshield, a new windshield should be installed. A long crack can disrupt your visibility, leading to an unforseen accident or lack of control while the road. A windshield specialist will assess your vehicle's windshield before recommending that it is repaired or replaced.

Protect Your Windshield

After your windshield is repaired or replaced, a mobile repair person will let you know. Provide the repair person for any details associated with your insurance company before they leave. Protect the repaired or new windshield by keeping it covered during icy weather conditions when you will not be driving your vehicle. Always clean the windshield with products that are designed for use on glass.
